Abstract: Alseodaphne andersonii (King ex Hook. f.) Kosterm. (Lauraceae) a tree is growing in the Himalayan region. Various biological activities of this plant are reported such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It is mainly used as timber for commercial purposes. This plant contained various phytoconstituents such as carbohydrates, alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. Five A. andersonii containing compounds were reported, four C17 γ-lactones are dihydroisoobtusilactone, dihydroobtusilactone, 3-epilitsenolide D2, 3-epilitsenolide D1, and one furanone alseodafuranone isolated from the root and stem. More studies are required to achieve the proper role of A. andersonii to find out more specific biochemical, pharmacological and molecular aspects that may have the broadest implication to society.
