Aliphatic alcohols and salicylaldehyde tetraglucosidic geranilane from the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum L.

Abstract: Phytochemical investigation of the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum gave three new chemical constituents characterized as cis-, cis-n-tetratriacont-16, 18-dien-1-ol (2), n-hexatetracontanol (3); salicylaldehyde tetraglucosidic geranilane 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde-2β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2a→1b)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2b→1c)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2c→1d)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2d→10′)-geranilane (6) along with the known compounds n-dotriacont-10-en (1), β-sitosterol (4) and β-sitosterol glucoside (5). The structures of all the phytoconstituents have been elucidated on the basis of spectral data analysis and chemical reactions.
