Research Advances in the Chemical Constituents and Pharmacological Activities of Jatropha curcas L.

Abstract: Jatropha curcas L., belonging to Jatropha genus of Euphorbiaceae family, is used in traditional folklore medicine to cure various ailments in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It contains diterpenoids, triterpenes, lignans, coumarins and other compounds. Extracts and pure compounds of this plant have been reported for cytotoxicity, anti-tumor, antimicrobial, immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticoagulant, insecticidal, molluscicidal activities and so on. For this reason, the research intends to give an overview of its chemical constituents and pharmacological activities, aiming at its further development and potential value.
