Advances in research on the main chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of Belamcanda chinensis (L.) DC

Abstract: Belamcanda chinensis (L.) DC is the sole species in the genus Belamcanda Adans. (Iridaceae). The dried rhizome of Belamcanda chinensis is widely used as an important medicine in China for curing pulmonary diseases, acute, chronic pharyngitis, asthma, and cancer. Based on a phytochemical investigation, this plant contains flavonoids, terpenoids, quinones, phenolic compounds, ketones, organic acids, etc. In this paper, advances in research on the main chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of this plant are reviewed for the further study and development of this plant.
