Abstract: Gelsemium elegans is used as a toxic traditional Chinese medicine, belonging to Gelsemium genus of Loganiaceae family. It is reported that the main chemical constituents of G. elegans are indole alkaloids. In addition, there are also iridoids, triterpenes and other components. Pharmacological activities research of G. elegans proved that it had antitumor, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and neural protection activities. This study is going to make an overview of the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of the plant, aiming at its further development and potential value.
