Abstract: The water-soluble components belonging to non-saponins from Dioscorea nipponica Mak. were isolated and structurally identified. Solvent extraction and column chromatography were used to isolate the compounds and physico-chemical constants and spectroscopic analysis were employed for structural identification. Seven compounds were isolated and elucidated as benzyl 1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), leonuriside A (2), Icariside D2 (3), pyrocatechol 1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (4), (+) syringaresinol-4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (5), cyclo-(Leu-Tyr) (6) and adenosine (7). All of these compounds were obtained from Diosorea for the first time.
