Abstract: GC and GC-MS analysis of the essential oil of Trichilia connaroides roots revealed the presence of 48 components, 14 of which were identified. The identified compounds constitute 69.9 percent of the oil. β-Chamigrene was the most significant component (31.1 %) followed by α-cadinol (7.5 %), δ-cadinene (5.3 %), cis-calamenene (5.6 %), β-caryophyllene (3.5 %), β-eudesmol (3.5 %) and occidentalol (3.0 %). This is the first report of the composition of essential oil from the roots of T. connaroides.

Key words: Trichilia connaroides, β- chamigrene, essential oil composition, roots, GC-MS
