Simultaneous determination of isoquinoline, caryophyllene oxide, and hexadecane in essential oils from Juglandis Mandshuricae Cortex by vapour-vapour extraction combined with gas chromatograph analysis

Simultaneous determination of isoquinoline, caryophyllene oxide, and hexadecane in essential oils from Juglandis Mandshuricae Cortex by vapour-vapour extraction combined with gas chromatograph analysis

Abstract: A simple, reliable, and accurate method in combination of vapour-vapour extraction and gas chromatography-flame ionization detector analysis was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of isoquinoline, caryophyllene oxide, and hexadecane for the first time. The linear concentration ranges were from 0.006 to 0.090 mg/mL (r=0.9999) for isoquinoline, 0.037 to 0.555 mg/mL (r=0.9990) for caryophyllene oxide, and 0.012 to 0.180 mg/mL (r=0.9999) for hexadecane. The method recoveries were 81.0% (RSD=4.1%, n=9) for isoquinoline, 98.2% (RSD=4.7%, n=9) for caryophyllene oxide, and 83.3% (RSD=3.2%, n=9) for hexadecane, respectively. The established novel method was successfully applied to determine the three target analytes in essential oils from Juglandis Mandshuricae Cortex. The contents of the target analytes were (1.58±0.07) μg/g for isoquinoline, (12.13±0.65) μg/g for caryophyllene oxide, and (3.94±0.19) μg/g for hexadecane. The results demonstrated that the developed method would be applied to control the quality of essential oils from Juglandis Mandshuricae Cortex.
