    Development of a spectrofluorimetric method forthe determination of quercetin

    Quercetin is a polyphenolic naturally occurring compound potentially having a huge impact in human benefit which includes
    wound healing, cardiovascular, carcinoma therapeutic activities as well as have nutraceutical benefits. The objective of study was
    to establish a precise, accurate, sensitive and reliable method for estimation of low concentrations of quercetin in biological fluids,
    using spectrofluorimetric method. A standard curve of quercetin was prepared in methanol and serum in the concentration
    range 1-10 ng/ml. The method was validated in terms of linearity, accuracy and precision. The regression data for quercetin in
    methanol and serum observed to have a good linear relationship with R2 > 0.98 over the concentration range of 1-10 ng/ml. This
    method gave adequate linearity, precision, accuracy and recovery. It is also concluded that method is less time consumption as
    compared with HPLC, which requires lengthier chromatographic separation.

    A preliminary antihyperglycemic andantinociceptive activity evaluation of a mangrovespecies Acanthus ilicifolius L. leaves in mice

    The antihyperglycemic and antinociceptive activity of methanolic extract of Acanthus ilicifolius leaves was assessed, respectively,
    through oral glucose tolerance tests, and acetic acid-induced pain model in Swiss albino mice. The extract, when administered
    to mice at doses of 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg per kg body weight, dose-dependently reduced blood glucose levels in glucose-loaded
    mice, respectively, by 39.6, 42.2, 48.0, and 50.1%. A standard antihyperglycemic drug, glibenclamide, when administered at a
    dose of 10 mg per kg body weight reduced blood glucose level by 50.1%. Thus the extract, at the highest dose tested, showed
    equivalent antihyperglycemic potency to that of glibenclamide. At the afore-mentioned four doses, the extract reduced the
    number of abdominal constrictions induced by intraperitoneal administration of acetic acid in mice by 43.9, 51.2, 56.1, and
    58.6%, respectively. By comparison, a standard antinociceptive drug, aspirin, when administered to mice at a dose of 200 mg
    per kg body weight, reduced the number of abdominal constrictions by 34.1%, demonstrating that the extract, even at the
    lowest dose, was more potent than aspirin. The results suggest that leaves of the plant possess phytochemical constituents with
    antihyperglycemic and antinociceptive activities, and which merits further isolation and identification.

    Study on the preparation technology of Mailiu tablets

    The present investigation is aimed to determine the optimal formulation and preparation technology of Mailiu tablet, which
    is composed of Crataegi Fructus, Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma and Ginkgo Folium. The optimal extraction of one of the
    ingredients Crataegi Fructus extract (CFE) was performed by the total flavonoid content verifying. The optimal formulation and
    preparation technology was determined as following: weight the CFE, NRE and GBE 200 g totally in proportion respectively,
    mixed uniformly after adding corn starch 23 g and dextrin 11 g, prepared wet granules through stainless steel sieve of 16 meshes,
    and dried the wet granules at 50°C. Then the dry granules were passed through 20 mesh screen and added CMS-Na 15 g and
    magnesium stearate 1 g uniformly, followed by compressing into 1000 tablets with a single punch tablet press and coating in
    opadry. The preparation technology was proved to be reasonable, feasible and stable according to the weight variation and
    disintegrating time.
