Abstract: A method based on the capillary zone electrophoresis was developed to determine the geniposide content in Fructus Gardeniae extracted by water. The analyses were performed in an uncoated fused silica capillary with a 10 mmol/L sodium borate solution under 16 kV while the detection wavelength was 238 nm and guanosine was selected as the internal standard. The results show a good linear correlation between the relative peak area of geniposide (Ai/Ar) and its concentration ( from 0.10 to 1.00 mg/mL). The detection limit was 20 μg/mL with signal to noise ratio of 3 and the average recovery for geniposide was 100.6 % (n=9). The method is simple, sensitive, rapid and accurate, and can be used for the quality control of Fructus Gardeniae.
