Abstract: The anti-tumor-promoting effect was found in the 75 % ethanol extracts of the rhizomes of Dioscorea bulbifera L. using the neoplastic transformation assay of mouse epidermal JB6 cell lines. The EtOAc and n-BuOH soluble fractions showed different inhibitory activities against tumor promotion of JB6 (Cl 22 and Cl 41) cells induced by the promoter of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA). The EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions were found to be potent anti-tumor promoters. Twenty-eight compounds were purified in the EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions by chromatography and HPLC and their structures were identified. Among them, compounds 1, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14, 24, 25 and even a mixture of 12, 13 were also examined in the same way on their anti-tumor-promoting activities.
