Abstract: Colebrookea oppositifolia is an important medicinal plant. The leaves are used locally for the treatment of wounds and fracture; roots in epilepsy; leaves possess antifertility and oil fungi toxic property. The findings like the presence of paracytic stomata, trichomes of glandular, non-glandular, uniseriate and multicellular types, rectangular or druses type of calcium oxalate crystals and acicular raphides are the characters which help in the identification of this leaf drug. Preliminary phytochemical analysis revealed carbohydrates, glycosides and traces of volatile oil in water extract, phenols, tannins and flavonoids in acetone, ethanol and water extracts, saponins, proteins and amino acids in ethanol and water extracts and gums and mucilage in water extract. HPTLC finger print profile of alcohol and aqueous extracts has been carried out which helps in the identification and isolation of the biomarker compound.
