Abstract: Shang-ke Bone-knitting tablet (SKBT) is widely used in China because of its excellent efficiency on bone-fracture healing, which
is composed of 12 kinds of drugs. In order to improve and strengthen the quality control standards of SKBT, three drugs, Asterias
Amurensis (hai xing), Olibanum (zhi ru xiang), Myrrha (zhi mo yao), were chosen because of their contributions to the efficacy
of SKBT and were identified by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). The results showed that the TLC method we have developed
was reliable, accurate, simple and easily operated. The method was appropriate to control the quality of SKBT. Except for the
TLC part, a simple, rapid and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-UV method has been developed
to simultaneously quantify three active saponins of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma (notoginsenoside R1, ginsenoside Rg1 and
ginsenoside Rb1). Methodological investigation indicated that the developed HPLC assay could be readily utilized as a quality
control and quantitative analysis method of SKBT.
