Abstract: The increasing frequency of diabetes mellitus is distressing and flattering a foremost health problem worldwide, which is
mainly connected with hyperglycemia and abnormal lipid profile. Sufoof-e-Ziabetus-Dulabi is a Unani formulation, prescribed
for diabetes and renal disorders since ancient times. In the present research work, Sufoof-e-Ziabetus-Dulabi was evaluated
for its hypoglycemic effect in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The efficacy of the formulation was confirmed using blood
biochemical and tissue biochemical parameters and the results were compared with a modern hypoglycemic agent. The study
revealed that the formulation given orally reduces the blood glucose level and improves lipid parameters in streptozotocininduced
diabetic rats.
