Abstract: Phryma leptostachya L., belonging to the genus Phryma of the Phrymaceae family, is used as traditional folklore medicine and plant pesticide in East Asia. Recently, increasing attention has been given to P. leptostachya due to its numerous medicinal properties, such as the insect resistance and antineoplastic activity. As is reported, the chemical composition of P. leptostachya, including lignans, triterpenoids together with flavonoids, alkaloids and phenolic acids, has been studied. Among the compounds, lignans are the typical ingredients. This review intends to provide basis about the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of P. leptostachya for further exploitation and utilization.
