Juglans mandshurica Maxim. is a fast growing deciduous tree that is widely distributed in China and Korea, belonging to Juglans genus of Juglandaceae family. The roots, stem barks, leaves and fruits of this plant had been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of cancer, gastritis, diarrhea and leucorrhoea. Phenols, naphthoquinones, naphthalenyl glucoside, tetralones, flavonoids, terpenoids, diarylheptanoids and galloyl glycosides were isolated from J. mandshurica. Researches demonstrated that the main chemical constituents of J. mandshurica have multiple activities and good development prospect. This paper is presented as a review centered on the main chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of J. mandshurica for the further research and development of this plant.

Belamcanda chinensis (L.) DC is the sole species in the genus Belamcanda Adans. (Iridaceae). The dried rhizome of Belamcanda chinensis is widely used as an important medicine in China for curing pulmonary diseases, acute, chronic pharyngitis, asthma, and cancer. Based on a phytochemical investigation, this plant contains flavonoids, terpenoids, quinones, phenolic compounds, ketones, organic acids, etc. In this paper, advances in research on the main chemical constituents and pharmacological effects of this plant are reviewed for the further study and development of this plant.

Six oleanolic acid saponins were isolated from Monoammonium glycyrrhinate (MAG). Their structures were elucidated via spectroscopic data analyses, including 13C NMR and HRESIMS. The assay concerning the inhibition of NO inhibition induced by lipopolysaccharide in RAW 264.7 cells was conducted to evaluate their anti-inflammatory activity of the isolated triterpenoid saponins. The results revealed that compound 4 exhibited weak inhibitory activity on the production of NO with the inhibition rate 12.04% at 100 μM compared with the positive control drug, minocycline, the inhibition rate of which was 35.39% at 100 μM.

    摘要 ( 314 )   PDF(908KB) ( 504 )
Immunomodulatory activity of Calcined Jade (CJ) was evaluated in male Swiss albino mice. Mice were treated with 4 doses of CJ (50, 75, 100 and 200 µg/kg body weight) for 10 days. Plaque-forming cell (PFC) assay, haemagglutination titre (HT), total IgG, IgG subtypes and IgE antibody level were studied in various groups of animals. Humoral immunity as measured by PFC showed an elevated response at a dose of 75 and 100 µg/kg, but at 50 and 200 µg/kg, no significant effect was observed. In the HT test, CJ also showed modulatory effect at all the doses. CJ elicited a significant increase in total IgG antibody level at all four doses till 60 days of primary immunization. IgG subtype (IgG2a/b, IgG3) were also found to be increased significantly upon CJ administration at all 4 doses till 60 days of primary immunization. No significant effect was observed on the level of IgE antibody level. Overall, CJ showed a stimulatory effect on humoral immune functions in mice. As it is used for a variety of medicinal purposes, its immunostimulatory effect, as reported in this study, strengthens the rationale of its use in several traditional drugs.

    摘要 ( 359 )   PDF(704KB) ( 595 )
Diabetic foot ulcers are one of the most serious complications of uncontrolled Diabetes mellitus. This is considered as the major cause of the amputations associated with the disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the wound healing property of alcohol extract of Wattakaka volubilis root in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of STZ at a dose of 45 mg/kg. Foot ulcer and dead space wound models were induced in the diabetic rats on the 8thd following induction of diabetes. The extract was administered p.o. at doses 200 and 400 mg/kg for 21 d. Glimepiride 0.5 mg/kg was used as the standard drug and vehicle treated diabetic rats were assigned as the positive control. There was significant wound contraction of the foot ulcers from the 8th day onwards. Healing of Dead space wounds was assessed by comparing the wet weight of granulation tissue and its breaking strength with that of the untreated diabetic positive control. It was found that wet weight and breaking strength of granulation tissue were significantly increased in the extract treated animals when compared with the positive control animals.SOD and catalase levels in the granulation tissue were also measured and found to be significantly (P< 0.001) increased. Histopathology examination of granulation tissue from extract treated and glimepiride treated animals showed predominant collagen formation. The results of this study showed that the alcohol extract of W. volubilis root stimulates collagen deposition and granulation tissue formation which accelerate wound healing even in diabetic conditions. Traditionally W. volubilis root is used in diabetic conditions. Hence further studies can be undertaken to evaluate the antidiabetic property of W. volubilis root also, which may help in the future development of this medicinal plant to a drug/ formulation with antidiabetic and wound healing properties.
