Abstract: Saiga tatarica horns have been traditionally regarded as having medicinal properties. However, reports are rare about an effective and convenient identification assay. The aim of this study was to establish and evaluate a molecular diagnostic assay of S. antelope horns with COI sequences as a molecular marker. Genomic DNA extracted from S. antelope horns was used as templates. The amplification system of COI regions was established and optimized. The PCR assay was accurate and specific. All these results obtained indicate that the COI sequences could be used to identify Saiga tatarica horns successfully.
