The tea estates of Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh are hot spots for finding many small tribes (100-500 community members),
which tribes are not found elsewhere in the country. It was the objective of the present study to document the tribal medicinal
practices of the Var tribe of Moulvibazar district. The Var tribe can be found as a single community residing in Kamalganj
tea estate in Moulvibazar district. Interviews of the two tribal healers were carried out with the help of a semi-structured
questionnaire, open-ended interviews, and the guided field-walk method. The tribe had less than 200 community members. The
two healers used a total of 25 medicinal plants distributed into 20 families for treatment of various ailments, which included
fever, gastrointestinal disorders, wounds, ear problems, low sperm count, coughs, itches, and menstrual pain. One formulation
was used as a galactagogue. From the number of plants used, it appeared that low sperm count, coughs, and gastrointestinal
disorders were the major ailments faced by the tribal community. Available scientific reports validate the use of several plants by
the traditional healers. Further scientific validation of the various therapeutic uses of medicinal plants by the tribal healers can
be an effective approach to make cheap medicines readily available to the tribal community, who are too poor to afford allopathic
    medicines.

    摘要 ( 501 )
Furanocoumarins are the coumarin derivatives distributed abundantly in higher plants. They can be grouped into the linear type
and angular type. Imperatorin belongs to linear furanocoumarin class of compounds. It is reported to play a vital role in many
biological activities. Therefore, a high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) densitometric method was developed
and validated for the estimation of imperatorin. Imperatorin was separated on aluminium-backed silica gel 60 F254 plates using
toluene:ethyl acetate (9:1, % v/v) as the mobile phase. This system was found to give a compact band of imperatorin at Rf
value 0.49 ± 0.02. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were found to be 35.14 and 105.57 ng/spot, respectively. The
proposed method was employed with a high degree of precision and accuracy for the estimation of imperatorin in Nardostachys
jatamansi DC, Rosa damascena Mill., Apium graveolens Linn., Trachyspermum ammi Linn. and in-house Unani formulation
Safoof-e-Muhazzil, containing these plants as ingredients.

Determination of glycyrrhizic acid and glycyrrhetinicacid content in Rhizoma Pinelliae Fermentata and itsunfermented production by HPLC method

    2014 (2):  45-51.
    摘要 ( 403 )
A simple and reliable high-performance liquid chromatographic method was established for determination of glycyrrhizic acid and
glycyrrhetinic acid content in different period of fermentation of Rhizoma Pinelliae Fermentata. The chromatographic separation
was performed on a Elite C18 column (250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm) with a gradient elution of acetonitrile and 0.05% aqueous phosphoric
acid at a flow rate of 0.8 ml/min. The detector wavelength was 250 nm and the column temperature was room temperature. The linear
    ranges were from 1.32 to 33 μg/ml (r=0.9991) for glycyrrhizic acid,12.48 to 624 μg/ml (r=0.9991) for glycyrrhetinic acid respectively.
The precision for glycyrrhizic acid, glycyrrhetinic acid was1.6%,1.8%. The method recoveries were 99.8% for glycyrrhizic acid,
100.1% for glycyrrhetinic acid. The contents of the target analytes in different period of fermentation of Rhizoma Pinelliae
Fermentata were (37.43-20.61) μg/g for glycyrrhizic acid, (134.72-99.12) μg/g for glycyrrhetinic acid. The method is simple, accurate
and reproducible. It can be used to provides the theory basis for the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine Rhizoma Pinelliae
Fermentata. Finally, it provides a identification standards for Rhizoma Pinelliae Fermentata’s production and market circulation.
