Licorice flavonoids are readily obtained from the traditional herbal medicine Glycyrrrhiza uralensis Fischer. In this study,
the pseudo-aldosteronism toxicity of licorice flavonoid dispersible tablets (LFT) in male SD rats was evaluated. The serum
concentrations of sodium, potassium and aldosterone were examined, and the blood pressure was measured on day 0, 14, and
    21. The results obtained showed that rats fed LFT exhibited no statistically significant differences in serum sodium, potassium
and aldosterone, and also systolic and diastolic blood pressure in comparison with the CON group. Furthermore, LFT caused
no obvious damage to the heart, aortic vascular system and the kidneys. Therefore, our study shows that LFT did not produce
pseudo-aldosteronism, induced by Glycyrrhizin and the herbal preparation. So, this study provides a good foundation for new
studies involving the further application of LFT.

Purification of an antibacterial effective fractionfrom Syringae Folium using macroporous resins
Cuiting Wu, Ping Shao, Na Han, Zhihui Liu, Zhengyuan Zhou, Dezu Miao, Wei Li, Jun Yin
    2014 (4):  98-104.
    摘要 ( 272 )   PDF(616KB) ( 353 )
This paper is to investigate the purification of an antibacterial effective fraction from Syringae Folium using macroporous
resins. Static adsorption and desorption tests were carried out for the screening of macroporous resins. A desorption experiment
was performed on selected D101 resin to optimize the separation process. The effects of several parameters, including the elution
flow rate, and ratio of the diameter to the height of the bed, were examined in an orthogonal experiment. The results obtained
demonstrated that the optimized conditions, i.e. an elution solution of 55% ethanol, an absorption flow rate of 1 bed volume (BV) /h,
an elution flow rate of 5 BV/h and etc. The content of the antibacterial effective component was over 65% after purification using
D101 resin, indicating that the present method is suitable for the large-scale preparation of an antibacterial effective fraction
    from Syringae Folium.

Investigating antimicrobial aspects of Acampepraemorsa (Roxb.) Blatt. & mc.
Geeta Swami, Jyotsna Salvi, S. S. Katewa
    2014 (4):  105-109.
    摘要 ( 379 )   PDF(527KB) ( 466 )
The paper deals with screening of antimicrobial activity of leaves and root of Acampe praemorsa (Roxb.). The plant material was
collected from the Phulwari-ki-Nal sanctuary of Southern Rajasthan. Results were compared with standard drug streptomycin.
Petroleum ether extract of leaves showed significant activity against Escherichia coli (17.66±0.47 mm). Methanolic extract of
fruit pulp and fruit rind of the plant showed good activity against all the bacteria tested and the zone of inhibition varied from
10.00 mm to 17.66 mm. Less encouraging activity of methanolic extract of leaf against Proteus mirabilis was reported.
