The protective effects of total glycoside extract (TGE) from the fruits of Ligustrum lucidum on concanavalin A (Con A)-induced liver injury in mice were investigated. Con A injection into the tail vein caused hepatitis mice model and TGE was meanwhile intervened, while the mice in control group were fed normal diet. At the end of experiments, all the mice were sacrificed to analyze serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels. Pathological changes of hepatic tissues were observed under microscope. Compared to model group, serum ALT, AST, TNF-α and IL-6 levels exhibited an obvious reduction in TGE intervened mice (P<0.05). TGE has a significant preventive effect on Con A-induced hepatitis in mice, which can inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines, relieve the peroxidation injury and improve liver function.

The present study aims for phytochemical analysis, hepatoprotective activity, antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of methanolic extract from rhizomes of R. purpurea. R. purpurea exhibited the presence of different type of phytochemicals like alkaloids, glycosides, phytosterol, phenol and flavonoids etc. The hepatoprotective activity in rats was studied by inducing oral dose at 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg b. wt., antioxidative activity was evaluated by different methods viz; the superoxide anion scavenging activity, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, nitric oxide scavenging activity, DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power and total phenolic content. The rats were significantly reestablished from hepatotoxicity by analyzing the factors such as AST, ALT, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, total protein, bilirubin, albumin and urea. Further the histopathological results study revealed the significant improvement of liver. Methanolic extracts of rhizomes of R. purpurea showed abilities to scavenge hydroxyl, superoxide free radicals, nitric oxide, DPPH with IC50 values of 174.06, 63.14, 155.73, 119.85 μg/ml and also showed reducing power ability with the RP50 value of 280.41 μg/ml. The methanolic content was found to have a total phenolic content of 33.64 mg/g. The present study revealed that R. purpurea possess effective hepatoprotective and antioxidant potential and possibly might be used as herbal medicine to replace synthetic one.

    摘要 ( 213 )   PDF(691KB) ( 383 )
Recently, antibiotic resistant microorganisms have become an increasing public health problem. Traditional Chinese medicine and probiotic treatment have recently received much attention as alternative therapeutic methods. In order to investigate the germicidal efficacy of a mixture of three lactic acid bacteria metabolites, we carried out a study involving a cylinder-plate assay and a carrier quantitative germicidal test. It was noted that the mixture of three lactic acid bacteria metabolites showed an excellent antimicrobial effect on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Canidia albicans ATCC 10231, and Aspergillius niger ATCC 16404. Our findings provide an experimental basis for future investigation of their practical application in combination with traditional Chinese medicines.
